Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with direct experience in next generation sequencing (NGS) and epigenomics assays to be a member of an innovative and collaborative NGS technology development team in San Diego.
The successful candidate will play a key supportive role in carrying out genomics studies to support drug discovery and translational biology efforts across the community and will also support the development of new technologies.
Experience in the operation of Next Generation Sequencing workflows, library preparation, and an ability to adapt to new technologies in a fast-paced environment is strongly recommended.
The candidate should be well organized, able to work independently, and accustomed to clearly communicating and interpreting their experimental results.
Prior experience in NGS method development, epigenomics assays (ChIP-seq, DNA methylation assays, ATAC-seq), is strongly desired.
The position is for employment on a contract basis for 1 year, with potential to extend or convert.
Responsibilities
Carry out NGS and epigenomics assays in support of large collaborative initiatives.
Contribute to the development of NGS assays to benefit drug discovery and translational research.
Perform a wide variety of molecular biology techniques with minimal supervision and with an exceptional attention to details.
Generate NGS libraries and perform library QC upstream of sequencing.
Develop and edit protocols and standard operating procedures.
Perform a wide variety of basic molecular biology techniques with minimal supervision.
Maintain an uninterrupted supply of reagents and consumables for ongoing collaborative efforts.
Effectively communicate results in a group setting.
Maintain an accurate and complete laboratory notebook and other records, as needed.
Skills/Knowledge preferred.
PhD or MS degree with 3-4+ years of professional experience in molecular biology, biotechnology, or biochemistry.
Demonstrated expertise in molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction & purification, NGS library preparation & QC, PCR, qPCR, etc.
Hands-on experience with epigenomics assays such as chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP-seq), DNA methylation assays, or ATAC-seq.
Experience with cell-free nucleic acids (isolation, NGS applications).
Competence in routine mammalian cell culture and sterile technique.
Strong understanding of NGS technologies, with a track record of utilizing such assays in a research environment.
Familiarity with Illumina sequencing, and hands-on experience in the generation and QC of Illumina sequencing libraries.
Experience with standard molecular biology tools e.g., PCR, qPCR, gel and capillary electrophoresis.
Proficiency with MS Office suite, and ability to understand and present on genomics data.
Strong organizational skills and comfort with systems e.g., Confluence, JIRA, SharePoint systems.
Commitment to quality by rigorous and constant evaluation of own work.
Adaptability; able to function effectively in a fast paced and rapidly changing environment.
Ability to use technical skills and good time management to perform work efficiently and meet project timelines.
Additional Responsibilities:
Play a key role in the utilization of genomics assays across diverse research programs.
Work under the guidance of a principal scientist to reliably generate high quality data to ongoing collaborative research efforts.
Must be a strong team player with a positive attitude and be flexible to changes in project priorities.
