Job Description:

  • Impact communications supports the initiatives of the Center, as well as all Client teams engaging in one of our organization’s People Principles, Activate Caring.

  • The Impact Communications Specialist will serve as a project manager, writer, and general support resource to help ensure the success of Impact communications.

  • This role requires superior organizational skills and attention to detail; keen judgment; very strong writing skills; a team-building, outgoing approach; a sense of humor; and a passion and talent for communications.

As a Communications Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Reporting to the Senior Director of Public Affairs.

  • Write press releases, talking points, and create external-facing messaging.

  • Create, schedule, and organize meetings; support and drive team engagement.

  • Help manage and coordinate Impact editorial calendar.

  • Develop milestones and schedules for projects, ensuring project team and stakeholder alignment; manage and deliver on agreed-upon deadlines.

  • Understand and identify key interdependencies and critical path tasks, as well as anticipate potential issues.

  • Provide ongoing project status updates, including preparation of meeting materials, follow-up meeting notes, and next steps for team members.

  • Compile and manage regularly distributed PR briefings.

  • Perform news monitoring and reporter research.

  • Support vendor relationships (including ongoing project communications as well as purchase order and invoice management).

  • Complete ad-hoc projects.

Basic qualifications:

  • 4+ years project management and/or communications experience.

  • Bachelor's degree.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with experience managing multiple projects with competing priorities.

  • Self-starter attitude and ability to build a strong rapport and trust with resources across multiple functional areas.

  • Track record for being detail-oriented with a demonstrated ability to self-motivate and follow-through on programs.

  • Should be equally comfortable with long-term planning and day-to-day progress tracking and execution.

  • Ability to think innovatively and creatively, and to quickly change course, if necessary, to achieve desired results.

  • Oral and written communication—exceptional writing skills, varied writing style to meet needs of project; speaks clearly and persuasively; possesses ability to engage others; actively participates in meetings.

  • Research skills—ability to synthesize information from multiple sources, present evaluations, and summarize key findings precisely and succinctly.
